In addition to resourcing our community with critical needs during this time of urgency and uncertainty, we want to make sure we're also providing resources for joy, mental health, and self-care.

About the Mindfulness Health and Wellness Series!

Social distancing and COVID-19 have impacted our lives, shifted the way we work, and forced our community to juggle many competing demands. During these uncertain times, it is even more critical that we take time to come together, support one another and our community, and more importantly, take care of ourselves in the process.

Led by long-time educator and yoga instructor Alia Peera, The Mindfulness Health and Wellness Series was designed to help us become more aware of what is going on internally and externally so we can better resource ourselves in this moment. The more we become present to the “right now,” we can start to understand ourselves and what we need.

The series ran from March 26 to May 5 for a total of six weeks. You can find class recordings below!

We understand our community is being heavily impacted right now and can’t always drop things for a 1-hour yoga class or even a 15-minute meditation. So we'll be sharing videos of each session for you to visit and re-visit anytime you need.

Meet our Meditation and Yoga Instructor, Alia Peera

Alia is a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with certifications in power vinyasa and kids yoga. Her desire to share yoga with others grew out of her own journey for empowerment and self-care. She first stumbled into a hot yoga class while in college, but her love of yoga deepened after she returned to D.C. from a stressful job as a special education teacher in one of the most under-resourced schools in South Louisiana. Determined to coach her students to success, she began to burn out—it was on the mat that she realized she didn't have to lose herself to give to others.  Yoga helped Alia find the balance she needed both on and off the mat to restore and give more to her students, family and friends. Passionate about helping others cultivate their inner balance through yoga and mindfulness, Alia has dedicated her time to teaching yoga and meditation to kids and adults in the DC area.  She also works in the nonprofit sector at an education-based nonprofit.
