Over the past 6 years, the Code2040 community has grown to include 5,000 program participants, alumni, partners, and allies. The annual Code2040 Summit brings together this vast community from across the country to do three things: learn, empower and connect.
Building and advocating for diversity and inclusion in a non-diverse industry comes with considerable challenges and barriers. This is hard work. At the Summit, we will explore the tools, resources and actions available from an individual to company level to effectively advocate and progress racial equity in the industry. Throughout this journey, we will also focus on how the prioritization of self-care allows us all to thrive and be the best “us” we can be in supporting this critical mission. We will accomplish this through facilitated discussions, workshops and networking opportunities.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2018 Summit!
THE WOKEN WORD
July 27th - July 28th at Dogpatch Studios
San Francisco, California
Our country is struggling. In recent years, there has been an alarming increase in racist and discriminatory rhetoric and violence. Black and Latinx communities are marginalized by exclusionary systems that were not designed or built with our diverse communities in mind. Meanwhile our industry---full of companies pioneering new technology and tackling some of the world’s most difficult problems---struggles with inequity within its halls. Indeed, in a space where people shape the future and redefine what is possible, we see rampant injustice, limiting Black and Latinx people’s access to careers, the ability to create transformative products, and the opportunity to build wealth in the innovation economy.
The answer to this injustice lies in all of us. More than ever, Code2040’s mission for racial equity in the innovation economy requires the mobilization of a community of Black and Latinx technologists and their allies and accomplices. This is difficult, exhausting work. It requires us all to unpack systemic and personal biases, build empathy, educate ourselves, advocate, and take action. Fortunately, you aren’t alone. Whether you are a college student breaking into computer science or the head of diversity and inclusion at a major tech company, we want to empower you to find and build your voice and we want to help you make your voice heard.
Join us for the Code2040 Summit on Friday, July 27th and Saturday, July 28th for two days of deep, enlightening programming that will equip you to play an active role in this mission. We want to build a future that is more equitable, inclusive, and prosperous for Black and Latinx communities and that work starts with you!
We hope you can join us for both days. Each day will consist of distinguished speakers and panels, as well as three rounds of breakout sessions. Content for breakout sessions will be the same on both days so that attendees can attend more than one session per round.
