This year's theme is “The Code for Justice.” Through panels, keynotes, workshops, and sessions, we'll explore topics at the intersection of racial equity, technology, and justice.

Bring your brilliant ideas, stories, and skills re: justice to the 2019 Code2040 Summit as a presenter, speaker, or panelist! From sharing learnings about how racial bias shows up in code to the role of Black & Latinx technologists in the gentrification of San Francisco; from technical interview changes to integrity practices around surveillance software—We need your voice! The Summit is the largest opportunity to engage with our community of Black & Latinx technologists from the Bay Area and beyond.

We want to center your voices, ideas, and experiences. So we’re excited to release our call for presenters today until May 31st at 5pm. Feel free to submit your proposals to lead a session or a panel (even if you don’t consider yourself a master or expert). If you have questions about the submission process, contact

This year we’re doing things a little differently. In the past, the Code2040 Summit has taken place over two days (a Friday and Saturday). This year, we will host our community for one day, Saturday, July 27th from 9am-5pm. You’ll still get all of the joy, connection, and excitement you’ve come to love at the Summit: original content, space to network and build community, great food, and of course, our post-Summit party, Kick It!

We chose to experiment with this Summit model to accommodate our Fellows and other community members who are unable to miss work during the week. We’re also cognizant of the power and energy such a large production requires and have been thinking as a team about sustainability and our commitment to not burning out!

Our commitment to equity extends to our partnerships and our cost structure. On the partnership side, we've chosen to partner with companies who are actively doing the work it takes to embody our racial equity values and principles. As far as cost structure---from payments to presenters to ticket pricing---we're honoring the value of the work done to create a space of learning and connecting while also holding the different abilities to pay and participate. We're doing this by creating a new tiered ticketed structure for companies and individuals.

Over the past 6 years, the Code2040 community has grown to include 5,000 program participants, alumni, partners, and allies. The annual Code2040 Summit brings together this vast community from across the country to do three things: learn, empower and connect.

Building and advocating for diversity and inclusion in a non-diverse industry comes with considerable challenges and barriers. This is hard work. At the Summit, we will explore the tools, resources and actions available from an individual to company level to effectively advocate and progress racial equity in the industry. Throughout this journey, we will also focus on how the prioritization of self-care allows us all to thrive and be the best “us” we can be in supporting this critical mission.  We will accomplish this through facilitated discussions, workshops and networking opportunities.
